How do I keep flowers fresh for 24 hours?

I am planning to buy flowers this Friday to give to my date on Saturday. I need to pick them up around 2pm on Friday because I will be busy from then until when I see her the next day. Will the flowers go bad in 24 hours? Should I do anything to keep them fresh, like put them in a vase or cut the stems a special way? Any help is appreciated, I will choose the best answer.
They are yellow roses, if that helps.

Yes, keep them in a cold place, if you have a basement then that’s perfect… Trim them under cold water (trim the stems on a slant) and put them into a glass of room temperature water (water travels up the stem faster when it’s room temperature rather than cold…) after you get them home…. Put a little 7-up in the water before you put them into the vase (sounds nutty but it works)… Another thing you can do is after your shower fill your tub with cold water and put the flowers in there overnight… It’s a way I used to revive wilting roses when I got them as gifts it’ll not only perk them up it will make sure they are fresh when you give them…. :~)

(here’s another link…. it’s about the meaning of roses – colors and the number you give… I just threw it in here because it was interesting and related to the topic :~)

And btw that’s sweet… girls love flowers :~)
If you live where it’s cold, put them outside in an empty vase. If no put them in the fridge, don’t cut the stems yet, that gets done later. Have fun.
Cut the bottoms off at a angle underwater. then place in water.
alright first dont by your date yellow roses unless her grandmother just died try white or red. keep them in a cold place like in the car outside the garage or where ever cut them at an angle dont break them if you see any dead leaves pull them off gently. place them in some water that has a tablespoon of sugar but number one thing keep them in a cool dark place till your ready to give them.
