Preserve Fresh Flowers

Fresh flowers have been shown to add both character and personality of many environments. Often a touch of color and fun to any room, and can take a variety artistic arrangements. Unfortunately, that only last so long and should be replaced once they have withered. However, there are steps you can take to preserve for as long as possible in order to enjoy them for a long period of time. These steps are described below.

The first step you can take to keep the flowers fresh is to place them in water as soon as possible. Once the stems have been reduced, the life support system has been removed. While water will not be reset that support system, which will help to restore a limited amount of time.

Fill a plastic bucket about 1 / 3 to 1 / 2 full with warm water. The hot water should be used instead of cold because flowers use more easily. Because the flowers only drink through the ends of stems, as opposed on the sides, the cube should not be filled to the top. If this happens, all the foliage left on stems below the water level of rot and pollute the water, which also will its flowers to die more quickly. It is also recommended to add a preservative in the water. Conservatives will be discussed later in this article.

Take the bucket in the garden with you. Use a sharp pair of scissors to cut the flower stems at an angle. A sloping cut allows for better water intake. Remove all leaves from the bottom of the stems that are under the water level. Then, immediately place the flowers in water.

Avoid overcrowding in the flowers. You should always allow enough air to circulate between each flower, as many flowers piled in a bucket can cause the petals to be crushed or beaten. Place the tray in place cool, dark and allow the flowers to have a drink long before arranging them. The time to pick short-stemmed flowers are sure to use a container more small so that the foliage will remain above water level.

Allow your flowers to have a good drink, preferably overnight before the organization of them. This step is called conditioning, allowing the stems to fill with water and flowers to be crisp. In doing so, their flowers last twice that they have not been properly conditioning.

Use a flower preservative to kill bacteria that may be present in the water. Flower preservatives are available at garden centers or supermarkets. Another alternative is to use a cap of bleach in water. If you choose not to use a condom, you must change the water and cut the stems at an angle on a daily basis. If a condom is used, the stalks do not require re-cutting, and water should be changed only twice a week.
