During a wedding, everything seemed to be the perfect, the happy smiles of the bride and groom, the beautiful dresses and tux for the bridesmaids and groomsmen, the perfect venue, the love and support of family and friends but without the flowers it would seem quite incomplete.
Imagine the bride walking in without some kind of flower adornment then there is quite something wrong with the picture. Even the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton was adorned with grandeur with flowers and her wedding bouquet was lovely, perfect and gorgeous to behold. A work of beauty, glamour and royalty.
The wedding bouquet, also called the bridal bouquet, must complete the picture of a perfect wedding day. And the use of a wedding bouquet to fulfill a brides wedding fantasy did not start only today, throughout time brides have used flowers to enhance their looks and to create a beautiful wedding.
A Brief History about the Wedding Bouquet
The bridal bouquet is the bundle of beautiful flowers held by the bride during the ceremony itself. The use of flowers and sometimes herbs by the bride was first documented in Greece. Flowers and plants were created into a crown for the bride as a symbol of nature’s gift. The years later, the used of flowers and herbs evolved into the bridal bouquet. It was first formed from the wreaths and garland, which was placed on the heads of the couple, which was considered to be symbols of eternal love and happiness. The bridal bouquet was also created from different herbs to symbolize their union. A combination of dill and garlic would actually believe to create lust only for the husband.
The use of herbs in the bridal bouquet waned in some countries but the tradition of the flowers continued. The first design of the flower bouquet during the Victorian era was the posy. The flowers traditionally used were based on the symbols they represent and not merely for their colors.
In the 1800′s another variation of the wedding bouquet was created. This was known as the Biedermeier more like the posy but the flowers were arranged concentric circles. Each ring is composed of one type of flower.
The nosegay then followed this in the 1980′s. The arm sheaf then followed in the 1900′s, which was also known as the Bernhardt bouquets after Sarah Bernhardt. This was carried in your arms as the bride enters the ceremony. The composite flower bouquet then followed on the 20th century, where the constructed huge roses from the petals of gladioli.

It’s not so much more on the meaning of the flowers that brides consider in using the bouquets; it’s more of the color and the scent to compliment the wedding theme. The use of the wedding bouquet has been proven to be timeless.
