Is it wrong to NOT buy flowers for Valentine’s Day, on the basis of price gouging?

The price of chocolate candy is not jacked up in the weeks prior to Valentine’s Day, but flowers are. Is it wrong to buy only non-floral gifts out of principle? I’d be willing to buy flowers any other time of the year though.

For Valentine’s Day I got my boyfriend some flowers, some candy (not chocolate, he does not really eat chocolate that much), and I’m gonna rent a movie for us to watch when he comes home. I gave him the flowers yesterday and he does not know about the candy and movie yet!!!

Sorry I forgot to answer the question:
No it is not wrong. Flowers are more expensive now than they are any time of the year.

Make like I do on any holiday: go shopping for seasonal candies the day after, when it’s on sale! xD

I used to work for a florist and I didn’t notice our prices going up before Valentine’s Day–just ridiculous all year round. A simple bouquet can’t be that much at the grocery. If I were going to pick between the two I’d rather have flowers, chocolate is fattening.

Oh yeah, I could understand this.

You know, you could go and get them from the homeless man. I don’t know about your city but here in Texas the roses they give the homeless to sell are really absolutely beautiful. I buy them all the time and when I tell people where they come from nobody believes me.

They usually cost 10 bucks and they last a good long while, with aspirin or floral extenders or whatever.

And you are helping the homeless not to pander. They have to work at the shelter (cleaning, cooking, writing articles in the homeless newspaper) and stay sober and they get a corner and some roses wholesale from somebody.

They usually only have White, yellow, red or pink roses, but sometimes they have purple ones (my favorite).

Sometimes, you can buy flowers a few weeks before Valentine’s Day and if you know how to keep them fresh, you can have them for the 14th. Or get a plant way before Val Day. Keep it at the office, away from your significant other and then but a tiny teddy in the base of it and give it to her on the day.

But yeah, I could totally get not doing this.

Most women aren’t going to admire your economic principles when they don’t get flowers on Valentine’s Day.
