My Wedding Flowers

In a country where the old man paid a lot of respect, grandparents (and seniors) Day has been an annual tradition, every first Sunday of September in the Philippines since 1987. This practice was adopted by Americans, who began the tradition in 1973 through a proclamation by Gov. Arch Moor in West Virginia. In 1975, President Jimmy Carter signed a statement submitted by the U.S. Congress indicating that the first Sunday after Labor Day is National Grandparents Day. This festival aims to honor the elderly, giving them the opportunity to show their love for their children's children, and to help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance can only give to the elderly.
While a structured program is usually provided by schools, churches and senior organizations in the United States, residents of the Philippines held in a more simple, conservative, and cost efficiently. Always a pleasure to see young children and the degree school students create artwork color (using macaroni mosaic and origami seems very popular). I remember my brother who was then 4 years of being scolded by my mother before a visit to our ancestral home, because he took all the flowers of our neighbor in his attempt to make a basket of flowers (I think he got the idea when I played girl of flowers at the wedding of an aunt). Coming from a family of twenty grandchildren, my parents and brothers will host a lunch meeting that we naturally simple grandchildren task of preparing a song or a dance number in the "lot of talent." Unearthing old family albums is also interesting, but beware in turn the pages as the paper is too old and could crumble off!
Wise gift giving, Thai silk shawls and exquisite flowers in vases French glass are prized by grandmothers. Collared shirts and sets of hand tools will surely put a smile on the face of a grandfather. If your time and budget permits, amp up your gifts and make something that has been dying to take longer. I put a digital SLR for my lolo photographer and a 50s-style earrings decorated pottery with my Fashionista Lola 's favorite flowers (which happens to be the Philippine national flower, the Sampaguita) in my "save for" shopping list. Hopefully, come September, I can hand over these symbols.
The celebration of this special Sunday year, need not be expensive, but it must be sincere and great in virtue. This is also a perfect place to discover their roots, to appreciate the uniqueness of his family, and improve lines of communication between your generation and your grandparents.
